The Children’s Learning Institute (CLI) at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston develops learning solutions that help children from all backgrounds reach their full potential. We bring together experts in child development, medicine, psychology, neuroscience, and education to help children overcome the obstacles that can hinder their minds from growing and excelling.
We provide clinical assessment; diagnose and treat learning disorders; research techniques to enhance a child's home and learning environments; and build multi-modal teaching, learning, and coaching platforms. From before birth through young adulthood, across Texas and the nation, we help create a brighter future—one child, one family, and one community at a time.
Our Top Priorities
The CLI Excellence Fund supplies flexible financial resources that CLI leadership can direct to any program, initiative, or research pursuit as the need arises. The CLI Excellence Fund plays a crucial role in the institute’s mission to create a quality learning environment for all children through classroom curriculum, teacher mentoring, clinical programs, and applied research.
Beth and Drew Cozby Endowed Fund
This versatile endowment provides funding to address the most pressing needs of the Children’s Learning Institute. From helping families afford clinical assessments, to supporting cutting-edge research in child development, to enhancing our teaching platforms for educators, your gift to the Beth and Drew Cozby Endowed Fund will make a lasting difference in the lives of children.
Dan L. Duncan Children's Neurodevelopmental Clinic Scholarship Fund
Families from all socioeconomic backgrounds have children with learning and developmental challenges—but not all families have the resources to help their children overcome these obstacles. The Dan L. Duncan Children’s Neurodevelopmental Clinic Scholarship Fund helps ensure families with limited financial resources can provide their children with a sound educational future. Gifts to this scholarship fund assist families in covering the costs associated with their clinical assessments, evaluations, and interventions.
A gift to Reach Out and Read will help this national child literacy program make early literacy a standard part of pediatric primary health care. The program prepares our nation’s youngest children to succeed by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together. The Texas branch of Reach Out and Read serves more than 300,000 children each year.
Susan H. Landry, PhD, Research and Education Endowment
Susan H. Landry, PhD, is a visionary, an advocate, a teacher, a researcher, and a celebrated leader. But above all, she is the answer for parents seeking help for their children who face developmental and educational challenges. The Susan H. Landry, PhD, Research and Education Endowment was established to honor Dr. Landry and the legacy she created at CLI. This endowment will extend Dr. Landry’s vision by supporting emergent research priorities, funding educational opportunities, and helping to attract and retain the brightest faculty members. Its corpus will live in perpetuity as a source of renewing funds to improve the education and health of the youngest and most vulnerable members in our communities.
The Texas School Ready Project improves the school readiness of three- and four-year-old children at risk of falling behind in learning to set them on the path to success. The project uses a state-approved curriculum, child progress monitoring to inform instruction, and ongoing professional development with mentoring for teachers. Gifts to this fund will help expand the number of pre-kindergarten classrooms that can participate in the Texas School Ready Project, moving us closer to our goal of offering every eligible child access to this important resource.
