Camp Shining Stars

The Division of Pediatric Nephrology's annual Camp Shining Stars provides children with chronic kidney disease and their siblings the opportunity to enjoy summer camp where all medical needs are met by camp physicians, nurses, and dieticians. Our week-long "Kidney Kamp" is held at the barrier-free Camp For All facility in Burton, Texas every August. Activities include a ropes course, zip lining, swimming, arts and crafts, karaoke, horseback riding, scavenger hunts, and more.

Camp Shining Stars serves pediatric patients treated by faculty-physicians at UTHealth Houston's McGovern Medical School and Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital. Joshua Samuels, MD, MPH, professor and director of the nephrology fellowship program, serves as the Camp Director. Third-year medical students at McGovern Medical School volunteer as counselors and are exposed to a unique patient care experience as they enable campers to enjoy their experience to the fullest.

Join us in supporting Camp Shining Stars and help our children shine!
