As we age, our bodies experience changes that require specialized care and attention. Older adults are more likely to experience complex health conditions—like heart disease, dementia, and arthritis—and many struggle to live at home independently. Yet despite this, only 2% of practicing physicians in the United States qualify as geriatricians.
At McGovern Medical School, we have developed an innovative and truly interdisciplinary focus on aging-related care, education, research, and community outreach. Leveraging the resources and expertise across the Texas Medical Center, we focus on investigating and teaching geriatrics as a specialized discipline so that every medical student understands how to meet the unique needs of older adults.
