The impact of COVID-19 is immeasurable and will likely reverberate for many years to come. UTHealth Houston has been at the forefront of saving lives and advancing our understanding of the virus from the very beginning.
At the height of the pandemic, we marshalled all our resources—the expertise of our six schools and our partnerships within the Texas Medical Center—to form the COVID-19 Center of Excellence to tackle this monumental challenge. With experts in adult and pediatric care, public health, biomedical research, big data analytics, and artificial intelligence, our coordinated knowledge funnels directly into frontline care, research, and ongoing education.
Our health leaders provide evidence-based treatments to patients with acute illness as well as protracted “long” COVID. Researchers in biomedical informatics are also capitalizing on artificial intelligence and machine learning to interpret the vast amount of COVID-19 data being collected. To date, our COVID-19 Data Index contains thousands of datasets from large repositories, research papers, and individual sources, enabling investigators around the world to access information and make timely scientific discoveries.
The center also maintains a strong focus on safeguarding public health. Our robust initiatives in this area use data-driven research and modeling to guide local and state officials on how best to respond to the pandemic. Our COVID-19+ Cohort Study is also working with regional partners to assess the virus’ long-term consequences, furthering our understanding and opening a new area of healing.
Your gift of any size will strengthen our work to make a difference in countless lives, enabling the exceptional care and research our communities still need.
