Camp PHever

Children and adolescents with phenylketonuria (PKU)—a rare genetic disorder that requires significant dietary restrictions—often miss out on traditional summer camps, which cannot accommodate their unique nutritional needs. Camp PHever, hosted by the Division of Medical Genetics in the Department of Pediatrics at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, provides a fun-filled week where these young patients and their siblings can enjoy camp activities together in a safe, supportive environment.

Campers take part in archery, swimming, zip lining, horseback riding, and cooking classes, which give them hands-on experience creating meals that meet their medical needs. Dedicated staff provide personalized dietary support during the week, including specially formulated low-protein meals, allowing each camper to fully participate in camp without compromising their health.

Your support of Camp PHever will help give children and adolescents with PKU the chance to build friendships, gain life skills, and create lasting memories at camp. Join us in giving our campers an unforgettable summer experience!
