Research at McGovern Medical School

At McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, we are dedicated to advancing quality patient care through research. Our experts study diseases, injuries, treatments, and vaccines to improve the lives of patients around the world. Everyone deserves quality health care no matter their age, status, or location—and this is why research is so important. Innovation and discovery keep us on the frontlines of our field and provide new ways of improving lives in our communities.

When you make a gift to support important research initiatives, like some of the priorities below, you help advance groundbreaking work that will shape the future of health care for our friends and families.

Our Top Priorities

Linda Gail Behavioral Health Research Fund

A growing number of people live with clinical depression, bipolar disorder, or other mood disorders, which can deeply affect the well-being of these individuals, their families, and their communities. The Linda Gail Behavioral Health Research Fund provides resources for Giselli Scaini, PharmD, MsC, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Faillace Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and her team as they work to understand the causes of these illnesses at the molecular level and develop innovative treatments to help patients thrive with even the most severe mood disorders.

Treatment Resistant Depression Research Fund

Some people with debilitating depression do not find relief from standard treatments, posing serious health risks that can be life-threatening. Led by Joao L. de Quevedo, MD, PhD, John S. Dunn Distinguished Professor in the Faillace Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Director of the Center for Interventional Psychiatry, our researchers commit themselves daily to discovering innovative ways to improve the health and well-being of these patients. By making a gift of any size to the Treatment Resistant Depression Research Fund, you will uncover new knowledge in treatment-resistant depression and develop effective therapies that bring hope and healing to people affected by major depressive disorder.
